A man and a woman meet in a bar—but their encounter is unlike other stories that begin this way. The woman, Kate, is unusually bold, tossing out heavy conversational points so seamlessly that her counterpart, Sam, is simultaneously intrigued and tentative. By the time they wake up together, Kate has unwittingly caused Sam to fall for her, and the two engage in an intimate confrontation that reveals truths and fears neither could have predicted. The end of their short story is abruptly tragic.
